Studio: INTIMIDATION GAME
Friday, October 31, 2003: According to the official website for PINEWOOD/SHEPPERTON STUDIOS , a movie titled INTIMIDATION GAME is currently listed as being "in pre-production, shooting, in production or post production." Still no word whether or not this is just a working title or the official title for Chris Nolan's BATMAN film. And obviously, the film is currently in preproduction, gearing up to begin filming sometime in early '04....If Morgan Freeman is really in the casting mix for this film, I wonder if it could be for Gordon? I'm not saying it is, OK! But, it would be an interesting choice for the role, IMO.

Morgan Freeman is The Scarecrow?! Tony Hopkins is Pennyworth?!
Thursday, October 30, 2003: And didn't I just tell ya'll that there would not be any major casting news--official news, that is--until after the first of the year? Yeah, I think I did. Anyway, AICN is reporting the same timeframe for casting annoucements that you 'ol friends here at BOF have been telling you: There will be no major casting annoucements until after the first of the year. Cool. But Harry is also reporting this:

"...the producers are looking at a few high level actors for a few of the supporting roles. It looks like they are focused on Morgan Freeman for a 'Dr./Scientist' role. What this role is, I don't know for sure...but it's possibly one of the main villian roles. And get this.....they are considering Anthony Hopkins for 'Alfred'."

Now, I could dig that casting--in fact, dig it quite a bit. Let's see if it pans out. What I am curious about is, who the hell is going to be Gordon? And, didn't I tell ya'll that I have always heard that The Scarecrow was in this film? I guess we will soon see.

Quaid not in the mix - No BATMAN news until 2004?
Tuesday, October 28, 2003: Word in from a trusted source indicating that Dennis Quaid is not in the mix to portray Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming BATMAN film. Quaid was said to be up for the role of Gordon--perhaps even the front-runner. Not so says this BOF source. "Sure, Quaid's name may have been in the mix [for the role of Gordon--Jett], but I don't know how serious that [rumor] was," says the source. "But I am pretty sure he is no longer up for the role." Adding legitimacy to this is that Quaid has recently been linked to SYNERGY--a comic-drama for UNIVERSAL....No Bat-casting news until 2004? That's what another source has told BOF. "I wouldn't expect any major news, casting or otherwise, until early in 2004. With the lead cast in Christian Bale, the word is is that WB will not make any news regarding the production public until after the first of the year."

BATMAN, directed by Chris Nolan and starring Christian Bale, is set to begin production early in 2004.

It's not BATMAN
Tuesday, October 14, 2003: FYI. The word from several sources overnight is that the upcoming script review reported yesterday is NOT for BATMAN, but most likely the third SUPERMAN draft. Man that WB is guarding this Bat-script like hell!

BATMAN script review coming?
Monday, October 13, 2003: Could someone have finally gotten hold of David Goyer's VERY top secret BATMAN script? The one that Chris Nolan will soon direct? WB has kept this thing under a very tight lock-and-key and as a result, very little details about the script have leaked. And if someone does indeed have the script, then many questions will be answered. Like just who is the main villain? Well, despite trying like hell to get a copy of this script, BOF is not the lucky bastard who has it. But LATINO REVIEW just might have their mits on the thing. According to the website, they will soon review "a TOP SECRET SUPERHERO SCRIPT that only we have about a man in a cape from Warner Brothers." And they have already reviewed SUPERMAN. It's gotta be The Bat. We soon shall see....Hey Eaglefan! 23-21. Do ya think that Andy Reid forgot just who was coaching the Cowboys? It ain't Dave Campo. (Thanks to "Stax" for the head's up regarding the script review.)

Malkovich to be The Scarecrow?
Wednesday, October 8, 2003: I was talking via email last night to another internet entertainment reporter--from one of the bigger websites you'd know--regarding the latest BATMAN casting rumors. And he reminded me that John Malkovich has long been rumored for the role of The Scarecrow. And that's true, going all the way back to the days of the long dead BATMAN TRIUMPHANT. And with the rumors that The Scarecrow could be in Chris Nolan's Bat-film, perhaps Malkovich is up for that role? I'm not saying he is--hell, I don't even know for sure that he's up for any Bat-role. But, IMO, he's make a pretty good Dr. Crane.

Ra's, Gordon cast?
Tuesday, October 7, 2003: According to a scooper at SUPERHERO HYPE!, John Malkovich and Dennis Quaid have been cast in the Chris Nolan directed BATMAN: INTIMIDATION GAME--as Ra's Al Ghul and James Gordon respectively. BOF warns to take this with a grain of salt right now, as this should be considered nothing but rumor. However, BOF has been told by seveal sources that Quaid is in the mix for the role of Gordon. In fact, BOF was one of the first--if not the first--to go public with that rumor. However, I can't say the same thing for the Malcovich rumor. Stay posted to BOF as more Bat-news comes in!

Guy Pearce turned down Bat-role?
Wednesday, October 1, 2003: According to Clint over at MOVIEHOLE, Guy Pearce was offered the role of Bruce Wayne first, and apparantly turned it down. "Guy Pearce had the role in the bag," MOVIEHOLE's main main told BOF in a recent email, "until an Aussie film took his fancy more." That film is The Proposition, a bushranger western written by Nick Cave. And according to the website's scooper, Pearce was concerned with typecasting as well. While Pearce would have worked as The Dark Knight, Christian Bale is a much, MUCH better choice--in the opinion of BOF....Interesting blurb from a good and longtime source who is an "industry insider." "From the bits and pieces I have heard about this film, it is not going to scream 'restart.' While this most likely isn't a sequel to the previous films, I don't think [Chris] Nolan and company are going to go out of the way to make this a 'restart.' They are just going to make their 'Batman' movie." You know what, I have to agree. They are just going to make the best Bat-film that they can make and not worry about it being a restart, sequel, or prequel for that matter. In fact, I have heard something very similar to this from another unrelated source some time ago. I guess we soon shall see....One quick note regarding the release date. I inquired about the release date and more than one person told BOF to expect it to hit theaters Friday, July 1, 2005.
